How it works

From Stripe webhook to recovered revenue, in six engineered steps.

Chaser is not a retry loop with a chat layer bolted on. It is a billing-intent engine: every failed payment is classified against banking telemetry, routed to a dedicated play, drafted, queued for human approval, and recovered with attribution end to end.

  1. 01

    Signal

Stripe webhook → Chaser, in milliseconds.

Every invoice.payment_failed, charge.failed, and payment_intent event streams directly from your Stripe account into Chaser over a signed webhook. No CSV exports. No nightly syncs. The clock starts the moment the issuer responds.

  2. 02

    Classify

Decline code + account context → a named playbook.

Chaser maps each row to one of ten playbook classes using Stripe's failure bucket and decline code, the card's expiry state, the invoice amount, and any rep activity already on the account. Generic 'card_declined' becomes Insufficient funds, Issuer fraud block, Expired card, 3DS required, Card expiring, Card replaced, VIP — no email sent, Rep follow-up, or Needs review.

  3. 03

    Playbook

The right play, pre-loaded with the right draft.

Each class triggers a dedicated playbook with its own copy, snooze cadence, and recommended next action. The default failed-payment sequence runs three branded emails on day 0, day 3, and day 7; expiry, VIP, and rep-commitment plays route differently. Every play knows whether to wait for the issuer to clear, prompt the customer to update their card, or hand the row to a human immediately.

  4. 04

    Human approval

Surfaced when judgement beats another email.

Most plays run end to end on their own — drafts, snoozes, and tone-matched follow-ups execute automatically. A row lands in your Command Center when the automated ladder is exhausted, when the playbook itself requires a human first touch (VIP invoices, rep commitments outstanding, ambiguous decline codes), or when the customer replies. Each row arrives with the full timeline, decline reason, card metadata, and one-key actions to email, retry, snooze, log outreach, or mark resolved.

  5. 05

    Send

Branded outreach from your domain, automated or operator-approved.

Every email Chaser sends — whether triggered automatically by a playbook in step 3 or approved by a human in step 4 — ships through Resend with your sender identity, tone preset, and segment-aware copy. Card-update links are signed, single-use, and PCI-out-of-scope. Every send is logged, attributed, and reversible.

  6. 06

    Outcome

    Recovered revenue, attributed cleanly.

Chaser tracks the outcome of every play: recovered, churned, escalated, snoozed. Revenue saved is attributed to the exact play and touchpoint, so you know which signals actually move money.

Human in the loop

Automation runs the sequence. You only see what it can't close.

Delegating customer communication entirely to fully autonomous billing bots introduces unacceptable brand risk to high-value account relationships. Chaser introduces an ironclad verification layer: our engine programmatically handles data classification, draft generation, and queue management, while your operations team retains absolute strategic sign-off. Every row is audited, presets are fully configurable, and every execution is completely reversible.

Send caps per customer

Hard limits on outreach frequency, ensuring critical billing recoveries never deteriorate into repetitive, multi-message spam loops.

Full audit log

Every classification, draft, modification, approval, and delivery is archived with granular operator timestamps and state diffs.

Snooze windows that respect billing cycles

Intelligent scheduling blocks outreach during weekends, observed holidays, and key renewal windows—eliminating out-of-hours communication anomalies.

Instant kill switch

A single systemic control pauses all active playbooks across every workspace instantly—engineered for maintenance windows, legacy migrations, or communication resets.

Chaser does this automatically

Transition from manual intervention to programmatic revenue recovery.

Chaser automatically transforms complex transaction failures into structured recovery playbooks—generating contextual outreach, orchestrating team workflows, and safeguarding cash flow without introducing engineering or operational debt.
